Cubresa Announces New Compact SPECT Scanner for Preclinical Imaging Research

A fast and affordable way to add SPECT to an existing small animal CT scanner

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – April 16th, 2014 – Today Cubresa introduced a new compact, affordable SPECT scanner for preclinical research. The scanner attaches to existing small animal CT systems, transforming them into multi-modality molecular imaging systems for disease study, translational research and drug discovery applications. The product features a slim bore which positions the imaging detectors close to the animal subject, optimizing spatial resolution. State of the art detector technology improves sensitivity, helping customers optimize the trade-off between decreased radiation dose and accelerated study throughput. The product’s compact form factor allows it to be attached to existing preclinical CT scanners, helping customers cost-effectively enhance the utility of existing systems.

Cubresa’s first system has been selected by the IWK Health Centre located in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. “As an imaging research facility with a mandate to translate medical advances from the lab to the clinic, access to technology such as the Cubresa SPECT scanner is vital”, said Dr. Steven Beyea, Scientific Lead at the IWK‘s Biomedical Translational Imaging Centre (BIOTIC). “Cubresa’s attachable SPECT allows us to perform research, along with our clinical partners, that will advance the development of next-generation clinical diagnostics for a variety of diseases including Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and others. Such innovations in the early diagnosis of diseases are critical to improved health care delivery”.

Cubresa founder and CEO James Schellenberg is excited about developing SPECT attachments for a wide range of preclinical scanners. “We are designing products to work with a variety of small animal CT scanners, providing customers with a lot of flexibility in upgrading their equipment”.
